Materials

Choosing outdoor rattan furniture can be a tedious task, however in order to ensure the pieces you are buying will last against the elements, you should check for the furniture’s quality. Materials used in weaving is crucial for outdoor furniture to withstand the natural elements. Various material can be in weaving of rattan furniture’s broadly they can be categorized into two main classes Natural materials and artificial materials

Natural Materials

True rattan, is made from the natural fibers of a plant such as cane, reed, bamboo, papyrus and other natural
plants depending on different geographical regions. Natural Wicker requires more maintenance and care. It is prone to damage from the elements which drastically reduces its life span when used outdoors and will eventually rot if it’s not kept dry and
looked after.

Artificial Materials

Made from a synthetic extruded material similar to plastic, resin wicker can last for many years compared to wicker made from natural fibers synthetic rattan withstands the outdoor elements outdoors, and it can handle humid or damp conditions, unlike natural rattan, which breaks down or becomes mildewed in wet environments. artificial tend to tolerate such outdoor environments however they also vary from material to another. Most commonly used artificial materials
are:
 PE (Polyethylene)
 PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
 PU (polyurethane)
PE (Polyethylene) is the best material for outdoor furniture.

However, there are two types of PE material

1.HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)

The best material for outdoor furniture is waterproof, non-toxic, fully recyclable and can withstand UV light / heat and other natural elements. unlike other synthetics, and it lasts longer than less expensive Low Density polyethylene material or PVC rattan. PE rattan is designed to look like natural rattan, with some color variations throughout the material.

2. LDPE (Low Density PE)

Very soft material; of low quality for weaving, normally LDPE cannot withstand UV light, so the furniture will have a shorter lift span. PVC becomes brittle when exposed to sunlight and the rattan will split within year or so of purchase.

Frame
Furniture frame can be made of the following materials
1. Wood
2. Aluminum
3. Steel
Depending frame material, the furniture can be knocked town or fully assembled You can often tell if a rattan furniture set is fully assembled knocked down (self-assembled) by the construction. Fully assembled rattan garden furniture is the best option for you. Self-assembly frames are not as strong because you have screws holding it together, whereas fully assembled frames are welded
making it more robust and durable. If the product description doesn’t state that its flat packed, then look for the joins in the images.
